Rocky Mountain International teamed up with the Bismarck Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and the North Dakota Tourism Division to put on the 2017 International Roundup tradeshow event this past May.
The event took place Bismarck, North Dakota over the course of just two days of intensive pre-scheduled appointments, where nearly 200 tourism professionals from across the globe conducted business negotiations that help to influence the generation of more than $130 million of estimated visitor spend in the four-state region of Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wyoming.
This year was the 23rd annual event that included over 3,600 pre-scheduled appointments connecting over 40 international tour operators from ten different countries with over 80 regional destinations, attractions, and accommodations. The business conducted during these one-on-one meetings helped to provide the region with a a long-term economic boost that would have otherwise only been generated through an exhaustive number of around-the-world trips.
International tour operators who sell the region, branded as the “Real America,” attended the event to enhance their product base and knowledge of the area. Many of the operators who attended were small-to-medium-sized companies who specialize in tailor-made fly and drive itineraries for individual clients. This event allows tour operators to provide unique experiences in this region of the U.S., customized to fit the needs and wants for their clients, while at the same time providing an efficient and practical way for region suppliers to promote their tourism products to an international audience.
During their time in the region, tour operators had a chance to experience tourism products first-hand on pre and post-familiarization tours held throughout the four-state region. The tours enable international tour operators to better sell the destination to their clients, while local destinations, attractions, and accommodations had the opportunity to feature their products and showcase their community to a global audience.
